Obviously Black people aren’t monolithic. But many of us empathize with the plight of the Palestinian people. And so many Palestinians see the struggle of Black Americans as being synonymous with their own. Symbolism is a powerful tool, and I can’t think of a better visual shorthand than that of the fallen George Floyd. All throughout Gaza murals of Floyd went up symbolizing the solidarity of people suffering under oppression. May this re-imagining of the iconic mural created by artists Herrera, Mclain and Goldman show the connections between the oppressed are as strong as ever.
